If a student has a certain low GPA (2.3), can scoring high on the ACT keep him/her going to a Division 1 school? If so, how high would they have to score to go D1?
As of August 1st, 2016, 2.3 is the cutoff GPA for qualifying for Division I teams. In order to qualify for a Division I team with a 2.3 GPA, you would need to have an "ACT sum score" of 75 or above, or a composite score of 19 or above. The NCAA calculates the ACT sum score by adding together all four section scores; for instance, a student with a score of English: 19 Math: 18 Reading: 19 and Science: 19 would have an ACT sum score of 75 (which comes out to a composite score of 75/4 = 18.75 = rounds up to 19).
