Can I go to college if I'm an undocumented immigrant?

I've been in the USA in NYC for over a year now but I lost my student status and now I might be considered an undocumented immigrant. Can I still go to college?

There are no laws against undocumented immigrants going to college in general. Some schools may have policies against it but a good number don't have mechanisms to specifically screen against undocumented immigrants. However, financial aid will be very lacking as many finance programs (e.g. FAFSA) may be much harder / impossible to fill out being an undocumented immigrant.

Quoting Wikipedia:

The cost of attending college is the primary obstacle facing undocumented students. While there is no federal or state law that prohibits the admission of undocumented immigrants to U.S. colleges and universities, financial limitations are enough to prevent students from applying and/or enrolling.
