First Author Manuscript

Hello!

I am a senior applying to college this year, and have worked at a university lab for nearly three years now. I worked on an independent project, which I presented at the International Experimental Biology Conference, and I have submitted the project for publication as first author to the American Journal of Cell Physiology. Would this count as a good enough science spike for Stanford/Harvard? I did every single experiment and there are only three names total in the authorship list. (me, one other girl who helped on a couple experiments, and my mentor as last author). Also, I know that the adcom aren't necessarily scientists/researchers, so would they know the large difference between first author vs coauthor, and in how much detail should I describe the involvement?

Thank you! Angela B.
