SAT Writing question explanation?

Having an exceptionally dry and stable atmosphere, astronomers chose Mauna Kea as the prospective site of the world`s largest optical telescope.

(A) Having an exceptionally dry and stable atmosphere, astronomers chose Mauna Kea
(B) Astronomers who chose Mauna Kea for its exceptionally dry and stable atmosphere saw it
(C) Mauna Kea's exceptionally dry and stable atmosphere led to its choice by astronomers
(D) Because its atmosphere is exceptionally dry and stable, astronomers chose Mauna Kea
(E) Based on its exceptionally dry and stable atmosphere, Mauna Kea was chosen by astronomers.

The correct answer is supposedly (D). My question: What's wrong with (B)??

Choice B doesn't indicate the correct cause and effect relationship between Mauna Kea's atmospheric qualities and the astronomers' decision to place the telescope there. Replacing the highlighted portion with choice B, the sentence looks like this:

*Astronomers who chose Mauna Kea for its exceptionally dry and stable atmosphere saw it as the prospective site of the world's largest optical telescope.*

The sentence is supposed to say that the scientists chose Mauna Kea for the site of the telescope because it has a dry and stable atmosphere. This phrasing indicates that the selection of Mauna Kea for its atmosphere and the decision about the telescope are two unrelated facts rather than sharing a cause and effect relationship.

Choice D is the right answer because it states the relationship between the state of Mauna Kea's atmosphere and the decision about the telescope clearly and accurately:

Because its atmosphere is exceptionally dry and stable, astronomers chose Mauna Kea as the prospective site of the world's largest optical telescope.
